Would you ask for a recommendation letter from your advisor if you sensed they were not pleased with your work?

Hell no. You're practically setting yourself up to have a bad letter that way. I'm sure you can find two or three other professors who would be willing to write you letters AND who are happy with your work and clroom behavior (and who would therefore write you great letters). Good luck!
